Daemon
An intentionally designed subconscious process within the soul plane, and an incredibly important aspect of phlogistic computing. These form the basis of many dynamic engrams, often responsible for arithmetic, timekeeping, sensory interpretation, memory management, and other otherwise conscious processes.
Ego
A special classification of daemon, created by designating part of the soul plane as a further subset of the constituent fundamental phases, effectively being an isolated "part of the self." As they are composed of resonant phases, they are able to resonate with their host's soul to produce soulfire and read memories, but given they lack some amount of phases they often make different decisions if presented with the same scenario as the host soul. Egos also maintain an independent list of memory pointers, leading to apparent differences in their lived experiences.
Totum
The host soul, referred to as the totum, has a great amount of control over its egos, including restricting their access to live information by placing them in a section which doesn't receive phlogistic input, outright dismissing them, etc. However, there are known cases of a dormant totum, with one or multiple egos constituting a "system."
Applications
Most egos are not formed intentionally, and rather are subconsciously constructed as a stress response due to traumatic events, medically referred to as dissociative identity disorder. However, intentionally-formed egos do have practical phlogistic applications, especially in phlogistic computing.
While an ego is incapable of producing its own soulfire and thus cannot enable new computatoinal resources, it is often true that having a generally intelligent supervisor able to focus on seperate tasks may be worth the cost of lost resources in certain situations. Essentially, egos enable parallel conceptual processing.
